WHAT IS A BUNION?
"Hallux Valgus"
A 'Bunion" is a lump or swelling that comprises of bone and soft tissue along the inner knuckle of the big toe. This eminence is usually caused by an underlying angular deformity of the metatarsal bone and phalanx forming a "Hallux Valgus".
Often Bunions are asymptomatic and do not require surgery.
However if the bunion causes rubbing, pain, redness especially in shoe wear, it can lead to problems of function during different activities. It can also lead to lesser toe deformities such as claw or hammer toes.
If this is the case, you may seek an opinion from Mr Otis Wang regarding suitability for surgery.
